Battle of the Bone - only at The Native New Yorker

Wow!  What a crowd!  The loudest so far in the Battle of the Bone 2008 Wing Eating Contest!  Congrats to everyone who participated as well as those who came out to cheer on their wing eaters!  And if the crowd wasn’t enough, the guys ate the most wings so far!  Birthday boy Jason Johnson just missed three pounds finishing 2 lbs 15.5 ounces, while Jose Phillips was a very close second at 2lbs 13.25 ounces.  Pictures to follow…

When it comes to eating the most wings (weight) per Native New Yorker location thus far, the 101 and Cave Creek location (just S. of 101 on Cave Creek rd) owns the contest!  Chillin Peng edged Justin Vaughn by two ounces - 2lbs 9 oz to 2lbs 7 oz.  Peng currently owns the title for the most wing-weight consumed after seven weeks of competition.  It should be also noted that Luigi Lombardo was a very close third at 2lbs 5 oz.  The past record for most wing-weight consumed was Week One in Tempe, when Adam Gilliom and Jonathan Sands each finished tied with 2lbs 4.5 oz.  Gilliom ended up winning the night as he won in wing-off.

Wow, finally, our first use of the “Chuck Bucket”, which means our first disqualification!  Tom Corcoran gets the honor of being the first contestant to hurl in the “Chuck Bucket!”  More importantly though, Andrew Burcham advances to the finals as he was our Week 6 winner plowing down 1lb 8 ounces of delicious Native New Yorker Wings!  Burcham edged out Zach Corcoran (son of the DQ’ed dude) and Richie Priolo, who both finished tied at 1lb 5 ounces.  We want to thank everyone who attended.  What a great location and great crowd!

NATIVE NEW YORKER BATTLE OF THE BONE 2008 WING EATING CONTEST!!!

The Native New Yorker “Battle of the Bone” is presented by Right Honda & Bud Light

The INAUGURAL ARIZONA WING EATING CONTEST started Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 and is a “HUGE” success. The “Battle of the Bone” wing eating contest takes place over the course of 24 weeks with the Grand Prize Winner to receive a two year lease on a new car, a Honda Element from Right Honda.

• Every Wednesday from March 19, 2008 - August 20, 2008 at each of the 23 Valley Native New Yorker locations
• Roc & Manuch will be broadcasting live from 3pm-6pm from that weeks NNY “Battle of the Bone” wing eating contest location.
• That night they will be crowning a weekly semi-finalist that will move on to the Grand Finale Round that will be held on August 27, 2008!
• Lunch with Kevin McCabe & Friends will also be in on the action weekly with live call-ins from a reporter from that same weeks contest location from 10am-12pm!

“Big Red” Advances After Capturing Westgate!  Wow, after almost being the first contestant to use the “chuck bucket” Isaiah “Big Red” Navarro prevails and takes Week 5 at the Native New Yorker Wing Eating Contest brought to you by Right Honda and Bud Light at 95th ave and Glendale! Pictures will show that Big Red was almost disqualified as it looked to all the fans and the hosts Roc and Manuch, that he was going to discharge his 2lbs and 3 ounces of wings. But Big Red, who works for a valley hospital as a dietician, did not upset the crowd, and held on for the victory. Shawn Scully gave him a run finishing at 2lbs. Week 6 stays in the West Valley as the contest shifts to the Arrowhead location at 83rd ave and Bell. We would also like to thank Rocco, the DJ, who will be accompanying Roc and Manuch each week spinning the tunes!!!

We had another incredible night of wing eating at the Native New Yorker at Metrocenter (just opened in January) as 12 contestants did their best to chow down as many wings as they could in 10 minutes and 60 seconds.  As you will see in the results, it was extremely close.  However, Ralph Montoya was our winner taking down 1lb 10 ounces, just barely edging out Dong Wu Kim by an ounce.

Congrats are in order for the Week Two finalist of the Native New Yorker Battle of the Bone Wing Eating Contest in Queen Creek-Matt Maraniak.  Maraniak went off and won by almost an entire pound of wings!  He won with just over 2 lbs 4 ounces, while Vinny Barone was a distant second with 1 lb five ounces.

Adam Gilliom won our first Native New Yorker Battle of the Bone Wing Eating Contest presented by Right Honda and Bud Light.  The first evening was extremely exciting as we had a tie at the end.  John Sands and Adam Gilliom had to square off in a :60 second Eat-Off, with Adam taking the victory.  Adam now gets to train for the next few months and will compete again in the Finals on August 27th.  More photos and all the results will follow.
